Purpose-built DC protection for PV arrays.
These Type 2 surge arresters protect PV strings, busbars, and inverter inputs from transient overvoltages caused by lightning events or switching operations. They ensure equipotential bonding of both positive and negative PV busbars and help maintain system uptime across all Lightning Protection Levels (LPL I–IV).
U or Y connection—choose what your design needs.
U connection: Conventional protection topology for PV DC circuits.
Y connection: Varistors arranged to PE so the working conductors remain resistant to earth and there is zero residual (leakage) current through the PE conductor, improving EMC behavior and minimizing nuisance current paths.
Built-in safety—no back-up fuse required.
Particular varistor sectors between L+, L-, and PE are each fitted with internal thermal disconnectors. When a varistor reaches end-of-life (overheats), the disconnector trips, visibly indicating a fault and interrupting DC current. Thanks to their special construction, these arresters can be installed without a separate back-up fuse (subject to system coordination).
Flexible deployment with or without external LPS.
Install on the DC side of PV systems either without an external Lightning Protection System (LPS) or with an LPS when the required separation distance “s” is maintained. This supports safe integration in new builds and retrofits alike.
Service and monitoring options.
M indication: Version with a removable (plug-in) protection module for quick replacement.
S indication: Version with remote monitoring contact for status signaling to SCADA/PLC/alarm relays.
Typical applications
PV strings, combiner/re-combiner boxes, and inverter DC inputs
Utility-scale, commercial & industrial, and rooftop PV installations
Sites with or without external LPS where separation distance “s” is observed
